Spring is upon us and hopefully after you read this you will understand why its been nearly 2 months since our last post. First and foremost we'd like to thank all our family and friends who pitched in to make all of this happen.
So, as I mentioned - Spring is upon us. No better time to start getting the yard ready to enjoy the warmer weather. For those of you who have visited us you will most likely have a better appreciation for the weight of this task given that when we bought the house, the previous owners decided that burying the back yard in mulch was much easier to maintain than trying to grow grass.
With a slight grade in the backyard, we decided to put in a retaining wall. After about 5 hours of planning and roughly a hundred emails between my father and my brother - we agreed to disagree on the design. Despite our best efforts to the contrary - the wall went up without a hitch.
Next step was to put in the patio and lay in the sod. Easy right? Well, after carrying roughly 3 tons worth of materials from the front curb to the back yard - yes, things went pretty smoothly from then on.
My goal was to have this project finished by April 23rd (one day before my 30th Birthday) as a little birthday present to myself. Now, all that's left is a little landscaping. Denise and I look forward to spending time with all our friends and family back there. It really feels like we put an addition on the house.
Oh! One more thing - the stairs off the kitchen (if you want to call them stairs - more like an insurance claim waiting to happen) have been replaced as well.
Before ...
... and after.
