This past weekend I packed up in a 15 passenger van with some close friends from college along with a few new ones and headed on down to a little town just north of the North Carolina border to attend the NASCAR race at Martinsville. We arrived at the farm about 20 minutes south of Martinsville where we would be staying for the weekend just before 4am Saturday morning. There we met up with a few other folks who drove up from Charlotte, NC and Saturday was spent exploring the property, shooting skeet, and generally just hanging out. It was a beautiful day weather-wise and everyone was just content to relax and enjoy the good company.
Unfortunately, the weather would not hold up for Sunday (race day). The temperature dropped about 20 degrees for the high, the wind picked up, and it rained. The day would not be without entertainment though as we were nearly side-swiped by a van driving to the race and almost ran head on into a highway sign. We still tailgated as though the race were happening, and everyone generally had a good time. Later that evening a series of tornados rampaged through central North Carolina and gave everyone a good scare.
Despite the rain forecast for Monday, NASCAR managed to get the entire race in without a single weather delay. Typical considering we all packed up and drove home instead of going to the track. In any event, everyone had a great time.
